Integrating Remarkable with Zaps!
How to send your files from Remarkable Paper Pro to *everywhere* (Google Drive, OneNote, Discord, ...)
When I first got my Remarkable Paper Pro, my immediate reaction was "Wow, it really looks like paper!" Perfect for writing, storing, and annotating (a lot!), my RPP was exactly what I had been looking for.
But, after a few hours, I started to need the connection and the integration with my digital world that, although distracting, is something that should include what I do with my RPP.
Sending files to RPP is straightforward through the desktop application. Simply drag and drop files into the designated folder and you're done. The Google Drive integration is also easy to set up and use, though occasionally it disconnects and needs a quick reinstall—just a matter of seconds.
Now, the real issue was how to integrate it into your digital life, in such a way that what you do on RPP is actually on somewhere else as well!
I found a useful setting, by using the free plan of Zapier and the “send to” characteristics my Remarkable.
What is Zapier? Zapier is an automation platform that connects different apps and services together to create automated workflows. It allows you to set up "Zaps" - automated actions that trigger when certain conditions are met.
For example, it can create calendar events from form submissions, sync data between applications, or—exactly what I need!—automatically save email attachments to other locations.
With Zapier's free plan, you can create unlimited 2-step Zaps, though you're limited to 100 tasks per month.
You can set up a Zap to take emails received from "my@remarkable.com" (the address used for sending to my email) and forward them to another destination.
The steps are simple.
First, you pick the action trigger event, such as GMail (or the mail reader you are using, Zapier is very rich), configure it with your account
and have it triggered with any new mail that matches a certain type:
In the second tab on top, you can configure the string you are looking for, like, for example “my@remarkable.com”
Then, you can test it (third tab on top)
and when you click “Test trigger” it finds the most recent mail that matches the search, and in this case it found three emails from my RPP
Now, you click on continue, and it will use the data there to help configure the “action” required.
A complete catalog is available to you: including very populare services for storage, chats, calendars, etc.
Here, I chose Google Drive (as I have already configured for other purposes) but for example, OneNote can be also a good choice.
The configuration is straightforward. What you want to do with your mail ? We have to chose the event we want to perform, and from the list:
I selected the upload file action and moved to configuration (second tab top).
At this point, you choose your drive, the folder (for example, I put one I use for Fireflies meetings)
and choose what I want to add from this list (attachments at the bottom is what you want)
What is going to be the name of the file? Well, we an choose the Subject + the Date and leave the extension empty (it will use the attachment’s) and continue
Finally, you do the test in the third step:
and after few seconds, you get the file in your drive (check it is there!) and you can further rename it and place it somewhere else.
Final step: you publish it and you are all set!
A few important warnings: I'm using a free Zapier account which has some limitations. You're restricted to 100 tasks total across all Zaps, and your Zap only checks email every 15 minutes (this interval cannot be changed on the free plan). A paid plan offers more flexibility and lets you create more complex Zaps. For instance, you could use a Formatter action to automatically customize file names by removing the "Document from my Remarkable" prefix from the subject line.
